Please, Don't Let This Be A Dream

When you've made a career (and millions of dollars) out of passing public judgment on others, karma can sure be a bitch.

Update: Apparently the Chicago Tribune requires registration, which I didn't realize at the time I added the link. Here is the story, from tonight's online edition.

Limbaugh detained at Palm Beach airport

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

ICE officials found a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a drug that treats erectile dysfunction, in his luggage, Miller said.

"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Miller said.

"He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors," Miller said.

Investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.

The sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.

"We believe there may be a second-degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.

A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

Come on...you've got to give us more than that. I don't feel like registering with the Chicago Tribune just to see what the story is. I'm a big fan of karma...and that Carson Daily fellow. :-)

Viagra,

Yep, karma can be funny that way. Maybe Rush should make a list of all the people he has wronged and start working to fix those things. Then again, he'll probably do a show about how airport security needs to learn to crack down on dark skinned people and not pudgy, red faced, white guys like himself (who appear to have problems with ED).

Some of you may remember when Rush often-and I mean OFTEN-used the phrase "assumed room temperature" to announce the death of someone who had a different view than El Rushblow. Then, his own father died and a caller gave the phrase back to him, and hard. Limbaugh stopped using it for a long time after.

You'd think that a man with such a long history of personal failures--three failed marriages and long-term addiction to drugs most significant among them--would be a little less quick and gleeful in his judgements of others. But, I suppose, he feeds his flock what they want, and makes a living doing so. Maybe he needed the pills to sleep at night.

Sleeping pills for what...wank exhaustion? Was there lotion in that bag too?

I used to listen to El Blowhard in college when my roommate insisted on seeing what "the other side" was saying. Since then I've learned to see him as some form of a marketing genius for being able to feed off of the frustration and bigotry of his flock and to give them exactly what they want. Unfortunately, this has led to more extreme versions of Rush: commentators who do the same thing as Rush but with hatred, anger, and cruelty. Some of the statements I've seen from the more twisted Rush clones are truly shocking to the conscience.

Well, you know what they say about people who live in glass houses...they can sure enjoy seeing the birds smack into it (or something like that).

Um, hello. Rush is very smart! I love to listen to how stupid the liberals are. I would hate it if you people, (geek, liberals) were under the same microscope as he is. Hell, we all have issues we wouldn't want the whole nation to know. So the guy needs help getting it up. If I were a national celebrity,I sure as hell wouldn't want my name on the prescription. Hell, if I were a Kennedy, I wouldn't buy alcohol!

My point isn't about how right or wrong Limbaugh is politically, but rather that someone who makes a living judging others in a public forum (especially judguing their values, which he did almost daily during the Clinton years) sure can have it hit hard when public judgement has the opportunity to come back to them.

About the smart thing: I DON"T think it was smart for a man who just plea bargained for probation for doctor shopping to have prescription drugs on him that were in someone else's name. They don't have to be narcotics; the issue is whether or not he committed some type of fraud to get and/or have them.

C'mon, you don't still take El Rushblow seriously, do you?

Though there is a subtle statement in his getting busted for having viagra. Definitely somebody has a hard-on for this guy. He's being followed around by the press and police like a kid at the pound wearing a ham sandwich around his neck.
Not that I feel sorry for the twit.

It was perfectly legal! Can't deny that...

To be sure, if this was one of my clients instead of someone with the bucks to hire Roy Black, he'd be in jail right now.

Kelly, Viagra is only legal with a valid prescription made out TO YOU. Just like Oxycontin, Morpine, or Percocet. The feds send people to prison for a long long time for possession of those drugs witout prescriptions.

Now, can we stop talking about Rush and his sex life before the first top of mind relfex I have when I hear the name is not the kick-ass Canadian power trio, but instead this fat bloviator desperately trying to whip up an erection?

It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party's name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County.

You're right Kelly that it isn't illegal in Florida to set up a prescription that way as long as it is properly documented. I think that the problem that Limbaugh ran into is that he was under the terms of a plea agreement for the illegal act of prescription fraud that got him in trouble in the first place when he was drug seeking for prescription narcotics. When a high profile guy like Rush is caught with prescription medication that is not in his name, and it is also known that he is under a plea agreement for that sort of thing, it would warrant some scrutiny.

It does sound like he is not going to be found in violation of his plea deal so long as the doctor confirms that he dispensed the prescription as Mr. Limbaugh claims. Of course, Film Geek's point is still valid that karma has come back to roost in Rush's glass house. I seem to recall that drug users were among those people who he routinely said nasty things about on his radio show, or was that liberal hippies, or both.
