For the last several months I've debated whether or not to put The Film Geek blog to rest. Like Doug in the video below, I kept walking to the door but struggled with how to actually walk through it. I wanted to continue, and hoped the enthusiasm would return. It just hasn't.
So, I'm ouuuta heeerrreeee. . . It's time.
Thanks to all the folks who stopped by this site over the past few years. I enjoyed getting to know you, and talkin' flicks. I've met several of you in person, and hope to continue those relationships. I'll still be reading your blogs, though.
I'll be watching.

for what it's worth..i only found this blog a few months ago, but really enjoyed your posts and recommendations. you were a good one. take care...
I'll miss you, Geeky! I always take your recommends with the greatest confidence.
What!? Again with the leaving? Come on now, you aren't going anywhere. You'll wake up tomorrow and find that Everything's Fine (you know, like the movie?). It's a beautiful day: Go out and get some air, Have some chicken soup.
Or not. On second thought, go on and leave! See if we care! After all, it's all about you, right?
What about us, Geek? Who will take care of us? Huh?
Who's gonna tell us to look for the hidden meaning about long, lost relationships in the the next Terminator movie? We can't do this on our own! How can you just abandon us this way!? Didn't we mean anything to you? Was it all a lie? Was anything real?
Was it something we said? Was it one too many smart aleck, snarky comment? We can change - really, we can! Tell us who to be and we'll be that person for you...
I can't go on. What's the point? I'll never watch another movie as long as I live.
Ah well, I guess all good things must come to an end. And this has certainly been a good thing.
Thank you, The Film Geek, for adding some meaning to our dull lives with your insights and your willingness to share your thoughts that the movies evoked.
Anonymous: Appreciate it. That made my day. :)
Hey Suzy, thanks! I'll still be lurking around if you wanna talk movies.
Stanton: It's been a long time coming. I sincerely doubt there was much insight to share, but it was fun for a long while.
Wow, blogging apathy is going around. I'm sorry to hear you're calling it quits. I love your unique, personal takes on films. Your blog will be missed.
Paul
Paul: It was a bit more than apathy for me. For a long while I've been feeling as if I was missing a cylinder somehow. (Odd, me making a car referece, as I know nothing about cars.) It was just time. I appreciate the sentiment.
I'll miss reading your insightful posts and some of the best movie reviews I've ever read. Hope you do a few more when you feel up to it.
I´m in the same boat as Anonymous. Just found your blog a few months ago and I´ve really enjoyed stopping in for movie advice (it´s so hard to find the good stuff amid the junk out there). But I know how it is, sometimes you´ve got to move on. Thanks for everything, and if you ever decide to come back to the scene shoot me an e-mail!
Reinvention could be your answer. In my case, I've lost my way and need to change things a bit to get back on track and find my voice again.
I hope you don't give it up, man. You've always been one of my favorite reads.
Thanks AJD. I appreciate the comment, and the well wishes. I'll certainly do just that if I come back.
Bill: The re-invention idea makes a lot of sense, and may be where I go. I really enjoy blogging for several reasons, but the most important reason to me is the community that comes with it. If I could figure out how to do that well, I might.
And Bill: Thanks! In truth, I always wanted to write as well as you.
Nooooooooooo!!!!
Whyyyyyyyy??????
...you'll still come on the show to talk movies though, right?
I'll miss your posts. But part of being a great blogger involves taking a blogbattical.
After the novelty of Facebook, Twitter and the Iphone thingies wears off, people will come back to blogging, too. They'll come for reasons they can't fathom. People will come, Film Geek. Because the one constant through all the years, Film Geek, has been blogging. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But blogging has marked the time. This blog, The Film Geek--it's a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good with blogging and it could be again.
Oh...people will come back to blogging, Film Geek. Yes, indeed.
And I know you'll come back, too.
Hey Spike: I'll be there every time you ask. Count on it. And it was just time, Spike. I struggled with having anything to say, really. It was just time.
Hoyt: I really do miss the blogging community that we all shared not too long ago. And I'm sure that plays a role in the decision. I hope I do feel inspired enough to write a blog again, because it was a lot of fun for a long while. I appreciate the thought, man.
Read Me: For some reason, I missed the comment you made earlier. I apologize. I appreciate so much your comment, and I'll see you on The Space Whereby I Type.
Hoyt: I love that movie, but baseball still sucks...
TFG: See ya around. Holler when you want to meet up for a hot dog.
Will do, Chris. As soon as the weather warms we'll grab a dog and talk about old school rasslin'
I missed the Film Geek, so thought I'd check back, and saw some new posts, so I thought, "perhaps F.G. posted his 'farewell' post on April 1?' and ... of course: he was only joking!"
I wish that was true, Read Me. I really tried to stay away! But I missed it, and the folks who stop by. :)
