Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin got too close to a stingray, and was killed Monday off the coast of The Great Barrier Reef. You can read about it here.
Update: I realized after I posted this news that my friend Jedi, who writes This Is Not My Blog, also commented on the story. His post contains some links you might find interesting.

This is tragic. I still can't believe it. All those risks--and it's the one-in-a-million one that killed him.
Thanks for the shout out - ya varmint! :-)
According to the updated CNN.com story Irwin was taking a break from filming some "most dangerous animals" show to do this bit for a children's tv show. I guess it was both tragic AND ironic.
This is really sad news.
He was an entertainer and a role model, something that's in short supply on television today. Plus alot of kids these days don't see too many guys with a pair that big.
Cheers Steve, you're going to missed.
I saw his show only a handful of times, but each time I remember being amazed at how he seemed to love the animals, and how damn close he got to them! Yep, I suppose he will be missed.
I was so sad when I found out he died. He was truly someone who loved live and everything about it.
