We Are...Marshall Trailer

Yahoo has this link to the We Are...Marshall trailer.

Enjoy. It made me cry. I know I'm a homer on this flick, but it looks damn good!

It is stupid to judge a movie based on the trailer (otherwise, Silent Hill would have been the greatest fright flick of all time) but...this movie hoped to be able to illustrate the emotional struggles of the community and the surviving players and coach. And from this small portion it appears McG was successful in that regard.

Oh my gosh. I have goosebumps and tears rolling down my face. I can't wait to see this.

Just be prepared for Hollywood to play fast and loose with the facts of the story. Has anyone noticed how the old standard "based on a true story" has slipped into "inspired by true events" over the years? Even those that are "based" seem to have gotten farther and farther off the mark where the filmmaker wants to drive home certain points of the story or tries to appeal to a slightly broader audience base.

Don't be surprised if you see characters like Gimpy (the one-legged kicker), Pedro (the gay lineman), Rudy (the guy who just wouldn't give up), Snake (the rebel who had to be reined in and tamed), and Ritchie (the guy who had a premonition about not getting on the plane). Then there is the possibility that the film will just gloss over any sad part too (there isn't money in sad films the studio execs seem to think). Hopefully they won't mess with the story too much because it's good as it currently exists.

I'm not originally from here, but this trailer touched me. Thanks for sharing!

This movie is a little to close to home for me. I might not be able to see until it comes out on DVD. I don't like to cry in public.

Damit I wrote to when I should have typed too.

Oncee, I hate it when I do that, to. :)

I'm not sure most outside the area realize the theme of this movie isn't a football team, but rather how the community (both Huntington and the MU community) came together to overcome the tragedy. As a way to overcome grief, or just because they had to. But, from the trailer it seems the film does make that connection. I hope it is understood when it the movie airs.

Jedi, many people read the script prior to shooting. It is very close to what really happened. Of course, the We Are Marshall wasn't around then but the events are true.

Uh, Geek, when did you post this message? I sent this to you last night and I didn't get credit...

LOL

Good! The trailer looked great and you could really tell that it was filmed on location. Did they film in the old stadium...does anybody know...is it still there?

For my dad's sake I hope that they don't mess it up. From a very early age I can recall visiting Marshall's campus and him telling me that story when we'd get to the fountain in front of the student union. I hope that it touches a lot of people who connect with those events.

Sadly Fairfield was torn down a few years ago. They found a stadium that looks like it near Alanta GA. All the football scenes were shot there. I saw a lot of location shot in the trailer, but I noticed a couple shots that where shot on location elsewhere or on a sound stage.

I was at least a couple hours ahead of you, Kelly.

Damn it, I always give credit...

I think so, yes. I read a trascript the other day where part of the action took place out behind Fairfied stadium.

I live on dial-up, so I have no opinion on the trailer. :(

It looks surprisingly good. I just hope it isn't exploitative or condescending.

Let's see --

* all the extras seem to have all their teeth and shoes. Check.

* No bluegrass music. Check.

* So far, all the accents are at least believable, if not overly southern-sounding. I'll give it a check.

Okay, so it looks good so far. I can't wait to see it! I hope it doesn't let me down. It looks like the directors, writers, and actors *get* West Virginia, for once.

Nice checklist, Rebecca! Here's keeping my fingers crossed, too!
