High School Quotes I Remember: Quote # 5

(I make no judgements about content. I'm simply purging some of the clutter that's been inside my head since 1983.)

"I'm a moss hunter. I hunt and sell moss."

~ Recent (1982) high school graduate Eric Moore, when asked by the father of Eric's new girlfriend about his career aspirations.

At least he has a plan, right?

Hey, in 1982 mossing was big biz in these parts. A lot of out-of-work miners turned to mossing to make ends meet. Those were the early years of Reaganomics. Government cheese was big then too.

I guess the big question is: What did the father say back to him?

That sounds like a line you might hear from a 1982 grad from a high school 25 miles to the east.

Hmmm...I think my old friend Doug Little may have hunted a little moss in his day.

The only hunting advice he needs: don't go after rolling stones.
