Film Scenes That Matter: The Grapes Of Wrath

There's something familiar about this movie now. Something I couldn't connect with when I saw it many years ago.

You mean how you felt before Obama was elected, and now how you feel actually living out those liberal fantasies?

Or did I miss something? :D

Oh, the last 30 days or so have been hopeful for sure, my friend. But it's still a scary, scary time.

That's why it's best just to try and stand outside the whole thing and embrace the fact that, barring the return of Jesus or the arrival of the Vulcans, we're all pretty well fucked.

I've been telling people that if they have credit cards to get out there and max those babies out- you're never going to pay them off anyway so you might as well watch the end unfold on a big screen LCD TV.

(Just kidding, really. I never told anybody that. Guess I just woke up on the cynical side of the bed this morning.)

I like the idea, Reverend! I'm gonna try out your theory, and I'll let you know how it turns out. Maybe I can even get some bailout funds.

No doubt, stimulus money for 42" TVs to watch it all end in high definition- maybe they could stick a rider on the new digital antenna bill.

Seriously, I'd say the country will pull this slump eventually. But what bothers me most is how our manufacturing base has but been depleted. I keep thinking about what my uncle used to say "an economy can't work with retail supporting retail" and that seems to be where we're headed. Century Aluminum (formally known as Ravenswood Aluminum) has been weighing in alot on my mind. I think they ought to steal all of Marc Rich's money and reopen it- just for fun.
