Milk

“No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to serve somebody else than it is to serve himself."
~ former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson

Too bad Dan White never figured out what Harvey Milk seemed to understand very naturally.

Twinkie Defense, indeed.

So... Penn better than Rourke for the Oscar? Haven't seen this one yet.

I thought so. Part of the reason I had only what I had to say about the movie was the way Penn made me feel about this character. I came to admire Harvey Milk. The role was really complex, with Penn playing Milk at different ages and with different sensibilities. Due to those subtle aspects, I thought Penn was better, and deserved the award.

got this one at home to watch atm. I thought Mickey Rourke was phenomenal, it'll be interesting to see how Sean Penn measures up.

Just a short FYI. The Harvey Milk story (most notably Dan White) is what inspired the Dead Kennedys classic remake of "I Fought the Law"

"Drinking beer in the
hot sun
I fought the law and
I won."
......
"You can get away with murder if you got a badge". Imagine shooting a mayor of a major American city and then walking away because you ate too many Twinkies.

I'm going to have to watch this movie. Wasn't there another one made about this story awhile back? The Thin Blue Line or something?
