Glenn Beck and others who make their living trafficking in fear, racism and race baiting might have a different perspective on the world if a U.S. President had given this speech to schoolchildren during their formative years.
My favorite part of the speech:
That’s why today, I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education – and to do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending time each day reading a book. Maybe you’ll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you’ll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all kids deserve a safe environment to study and learn.
UPDATE: Only 12 of the 25 children in my daughter's third grade class attended today. For the record, she thought the speech was awesome, and it made her even more excited to learn.

That sounds like support for gay marriage, abortion, and socialism to me.
Well, actually, it doesn't. But some blond lady on Fox News says it does, so I'll just go ahead and believe her.
Curmy and I often wonder which of our heads will explode first at the continued unending not-even-hand-slapped fomenting of rebellion. It's enough to make you wish that Texas would leave the Union and take Beck and The Spoogent with them. Yellowdog Granny, though, will have to move up here cause she's too cool to lose.
Just wanted to say that if you were pleased with today's blog on the Kentucky bigfoot, then tomorrow's blog about some West Virginia bigfoot news will have you all aglee!
Just don't let that Bionic Bigfoot know about it. ;)
BTW, I'm serious about tomorrow being WV bigfoot day at my place. Really, unless something huge (like Freddie Mercury coming back from the dead to visit my house) happens, I'm sharing some recent WV bigfoot nuggets that I've been squirreling away for the right time to use them.
I work hard so our kids can have school books and get good grades, not so they can be in a "safe environment". If you wanted a safe environment for kids send them to Canada!
How dare he fill our kids heads with his political agenda of working hard and setting goals. AND!! he asks kids to stand up (i.e. help) others! SOC1AL1SMS!!
(Can I get on some free GOP sweet healthcare now?)
They did not show the speech at our kids' school...not sure why, though. But that's o.k. because we all watched it together at Chez Donutbuzz.
I just watched Obama's speech tonight and thought he delivered another gem. The more I see him, the more I know we elected the person for the job.
