Saturday Morning Memories: Part 2

I always suspected that pre-teens fell into one of two Saturday morning camps during the early to mid-70s. You were either in:

Camp 1:

or Camp 2:

Because I liked intrigue, mystery and cute girls with pig-tails I was a Land Of The Lost fan. Which did you prefer, and why?

I was always a fan of Land of the Lost. As a little kid I liked the dinosaurs and secretly hoped that one of the kids from the family would get eaten by a lizard or a sleastak. There was a certain lovecraftian element to the show -lost civilizations, decay and even an undercurrent of resignation to the mortality of humankind. It was a silly show with some pretty smart themes.

I was a Land of the Lost kid, though I can't really tell you why. It's just too long ago to remember. The only thing I can think of is that it had a sense of adventure, and the outdoors, which greatly appealed to a kid who just wanted to go outside and play (with his Land of the Lost light gun, by the way).

Yep, the mortality of humanity was made more obvious when the time traveling red-clothed Sleestack (I think his name was Enoch) realized he had traveled into his future, rather than to his primitive past. Clearly a shout out for how we humans treat the planet, and each other.

I didn't watch either of those...but I did watch "Wonderbug" by the same Sid & Marty Krofft. Man, just looking at the stills from that show make me wonder what I was thinking. Perhaps this is how I can rationalize things like Barney and Teletubbies.

WonderBug and Bigfoot & Wildboy were favorites of mine, too. They don't hold up well to present day assessment, but they were fun as hell in their time.

I've never heard of any of those! Maybe I'm just too young!

I probably watched Land of the Lost more, but I actually liked both. Sid and Marty Krofft can do no wrong in my book.

If I had to choose, I would go with Land of the Lost because the Sleezstax rock. I watched an episode a couple months ago and it was awful.

Big surprise: Land of the Lost!
I did stop watching when they switched the Dad for the Uncle though. I've never been comfortable with change. Heck, I'll stop watching a show if the cast gets haircuts, so changing main characters was waaay too much for me back then.
