I Ain' t That Controversial

I need to get out of the house more. I've seen only thirteen of Entertainment Weekly's 25 Most Controversial Movies Ever.

What's your total?

Apparently I live under a rock because I've only seen 2.

Bonnie and Clyde and Basic Instinct.

Nah, I'm older...lots more time to see lots more movies. When you are near-middle (cough) age like me, you'll have seen a bunch more.

Only 11 for me, but 5 out of the top 6! I hadn't even heard of some of those films though.

9. I love Brando in Last Tango.

Only 10 for me.

But aren't "Deep Throat" and "Caligula" basically porn?

How did they make the list?

I haven't seen any of them! Maybe it's because I hate controversy. I am a Libra, you know? Or maybe it's because I am too damn young and I don't have an attention span!

Marty, they are porn. But, they had a significant impact in movies that followed.

Speaking of "Deep Throat", I recently saw the 2005 documentary "Inside Deep Throat" on loan from the public library. It was interesting because the doc. was premised on the idea that "Deep Throat" was different from all other porn before it because it actually appealed to women and the socialites of the middle class flocked to see it and talk about it like it was an art film (it was a silly film with a silly premise...but still porn). It is also credited for bringing porn into the mainstream.

Check out the review of the documentary on Amazon.com if you want to know more. And if you're wondering why it was more controversial than the average porn flick...here is the tagline from the documentary.

"It was filmed in 6 days for 25 thousand dollars. The government didn't want you to see it. It was banned in 23 states. It has grossed over 600 million dollars. And it is the most profitable film in motion picture history."

Only 4 for me. Looks like geek is the winner!

Wow. I've seen eleven of those movies. Does that make me twisted like you? LOL

Nothing like beating up a kid with skateboards (Kids), having a Menage o'three to classical music (Clockwork), or dipping your fist in something akin to syrup and putting it where it doesn't need to be put (Caligula).

I scored a 12. I've been wanting to see Freaks for years and Last Tango, but will probably never see the The Passion -just not my kind of thing. Oh, well... maybe I'll hit 20.

I have debated about checking out "The Passion" but it just feels like I'd be signing up to see a "snuff" film. I just don't think I need to subject myself to that. Anybody here think that it was a worthwhile experience or would you rather have that 2+ hours of your life back?

The Passion...funny thing about that fil for me is that I saw it on a bootleg copy. There was someting really funny about stealing a movie about Jesus. The copy wasn't great, though, and some of the subtitles were off the screen.

I dunno, Jedi...while there was some artistic merit to a lot of the scenes, you basically know the story. I'd skip it if I were you.

Whoo-hoo! Nineteen for Jackie!
Do I get bonus points for watching Deepthroat approximately 400 times?

Ladies and gentlemen, we have successfully ferreted out the depraved among us. We will meet at 9:30 pm in front of Jackie Lantern's (if that is his real name!) home. I will bring the tar and feathers, but please bring your own torches and rope.

I kid...

It's about time I was recognized for my depravity.

I want to thank my parents for their lax supervision which enabled me to watch many of these at a young age. I also want to thank Fangoria, Starlog, and too many other magazines to name that led me to these movies at such an impressionable age.
Thank you!!!
