For some it takes a lifetime to achieve stardom. For others, it can happen with a single scene. I still get chills when I watch a young De Niro work this scene from Taxi Driver.
"Well, I'm the only one here."
Another of my all-time favorites.

One night at Crawdaddy's (like, a HUNDRED years ago) my friend and I said "you talkin' to me" to each other all night long. God, we thought we were funny!
Cop: "You're not getting ready to drive that car are you?"
Yep, Jackie, he is. And this scene really shows that. Raw. Really private. It almost makes me feel bad for watching it, it's so deeply personal. What a great character.
"someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets" is one of the most single inspired, hilarious and chilling lines in movie history.

Peter Boyle, Harvey Keitel, Cybil Shepard, Albert Brooks, Jodie Foster, the guy in the Tulane t-shirt. . . .
I could go on.
