Dan Fogelberg

(1951-2007)

When I first heard Same Old Lang Syne, I cried. And Fogelberg's Leader Of The Band--a tribute to his father--is moving and inspirational.

I wasn't a fan of his complete work, but America's just lost a terrific singer/songwriter.

Can't believe I'm chiming in on this one, but yeah, he was alright. "Leader of the Band" was played aggressively on the small am station I grew up listening to, but I got the message early on and remembered it.

Thanks for chiming in, Bill. The guy told some really cool stories with his songs.

I probably owe some of my tip jar bounty to Dan Fogelberg, people always seemed to like to hear those covers whether I was playing solo or in a band.

Here's the last verse of my favorite Fogelberg song, Nexus:

In a spiral never-ending
Are we drawn towards the source?
Spinning at the mercy of an
unrelenting force?
So we stare into the emptiness
and fall beneath the weight
Circling the Nexus in a
fevered dance with fate --
Wealthy the spirit that knows its
own flight
Stealthy the hunter who slays
his own fright
Blessed the traveler who journeys
the length of the light.

peaceout,
cat

Everytime I see an Ex in Kroger, I don't try to touch her sleeve. Instead I go into Artemis Gordon mode and disguise myself as a saloon hooker or a Mexican cattle baron to avoid pointless awkwardness.
