Wild Hogs

I need an adventure.

I've never been interested in hobbies that are often stereotyped as "manly." In fact, I've always had some measure of pride in being quite manly due directly to my comfortable acceptance of being unmanly.

(But then I go and use words like "quite," which makes me sound like a real wuss. Which is worse than being unmanly, of course. Much, much worse.)

I need an adventure.

It might be a mid-life thang, but I'm not convinced. The feeling isn't something that a red corvette, career change or trophy wife would fix. My need for adventure isn't based in feeling unfulfilled, or in a need to prove myself. I think mostly it's rooted simply in a desire to feel like I'm living in the moment, facing down danger and truly experiencing life. I don't need that feeling every day. Really. Maybe even once a decade would work.

But I do need an adventure.

I realized my need while watching Wild Hogs. The movie-- starring a bunch of actors who are better than this movie, to be honest--follows the adventure of a quartet of weekend bikers who become Easy Rider posers. Tired of the routine and safety that comes with their cushy desk jobs, driving kids to school in a mini-van, sitting through weekly gymnastics practices, getting geeked up over the return of the TV show Lost or counting down the weekdays until Friday's scheduled trip to Comic World, they decide to go on an adventure.

Waitaminute...that wasn't the plot of the movie. That was the plot of my life. I apologize for the confusion, but see what I mean?

I need an adventure. I'm just not sure what the adventure is gonna be.

Dude, you already have a trophy wife.

How about a statewide hot dog tasting road trip? That wild enough for you? I'll buy the gas if you buy the dogs.

I was surprised by how much I liked this movie, and it had nothing to do with my mid-life crisis that I might or might not be having. It was just more fun than I thought it would be.

I think the phrase "...Friday's scheduled trip to Comic World..." speaks volumes. Sad. Really sad. -Cara

Hey Stanton: I agree, she rocks. And of course, I wasn't suggesting she didn't. I mean, ... well, I was just saying that's what some folks do. I know how lucky I am.

Now, about the hot dog adventure. That is wild enough for me. Let's plan it out and get it done.

About the movie: I was surprised I liked it too, but I did. It's just that I didn't have much else to say about it than "some guys riding cross country get into some hijinks." And the truth is, it did make me think, and think hard, about this need some men have for adventure. So, email me and let's set up the dog trip!

Cara: That's the point! :)

Just seeing the trailers for this movie kinda made me think "P.U.", but maybe I'll irk the Evil Twin and put it on our Netflix. Hee hee.

I avoided it for the longest time, too ETW. But I did sorta like it, really. It's a cross between Three Amigos and Lost In America.

Now there's a movie, Lost In America. Albert Brooks. Rent it quick!

I have a few suggestions if you want film geek. I just have a few questions first.. What is your level of fitness, age, and do you have a passport? This is a trip I think that would be awsome.

So cool.

Hey, Bigfoot: Damn, that does look cool. I suspect, though, that a statewide hot dog run with Stanton is more my speed.

But, that does look cool...

I have others that are a little more tame. My fiance is a travel agent and I work in international education so we kind of talk about this stuff all the time.

Wow! A review of a movie I rented and a double visit by bionic bigfoot! This is a good day, though we (Curmy and I) hated this movie and didn't make it past the first half hour.

It's a red letter day!

I dunno...like Stanton, I was surprised to like it as much as I did. But that was just about a C movie for me. I expected a D-.

And by now everyone should be fully aware that there is very little reviewing going on at The Film Geek. I watch a movie, and a lotta times it reminds me of somethng in my life.

Like, I need to find an adventure!

Just set a goal. Something to take you out of the comfort zone. Learn to ski or maybe run a half marathon this year.

TFG running a marathon, half or otherwise; that is a priceless thought.

So, about those hot dogs...

LOL

I did join a basketball league that starts next week. That'll last until the miniscus goes again. But yeah, Stanton's right: Anything having to do with a marathon isn't for me.

But I like your thinking on this Bigfoot. I can tell you have my best interest in mind.

I heard this saying yesterday: "The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago." Before you know it all of us will be in our 50s and 60s thinking about the things we should of done, but never made time for. Personally, I would like to keep that list as short as possible.

Marathons are gross. Any sport where people have been known to poo and pee on themselves to better their time and they look at the number of toenails that have ripped from their feet as badges of honor is so not for me.

Oh I LOVE that movie!

I'll be taking a trip on my bike this year!
